I love the gentle eye on this horse. Seems the bigger the horse, the more gentle they can be and if you have ever been around small horses, some of them are downright ornery, maybe a defense mechanism to account for their size.This painting has a warm glow to it and I had fun exploring the colors in the shadows. It is another in the miniseries, "Heads Up!, which focuses on the ever expressive eyes, ears and head of the horse. It is an original oil  painted on a gallery-wrapped canvas, 6 x 6", the 3/4" sides are also painted, so you can hang it as is, place on a table easel or frame as you wish. Click here to bid.

Classic cars run in our family. As long as I can remember, my dad has been restoring old cars. A '38 Buick, 50's Cadillacs, even a Bentley. In his early 80's now, and still restoring, he has of late been enchanted with Packards. This one is awaiting it's turn in the weeds for now. The fun for me in painting old cars and trucks is in the rusting colors and the light bouncing off the still-shiny chrome, not to mention the beautiful lines in those classic designs. "Little Sisters"

I have 3 "little" sisters, even though we are all "50-something" now. This painting was inspired by my younger sibling, Rita because even though she never barrel raced, she was very athletic and had a lot of spunk - and still does. I also named it "Little Sisters" because this horse and rider are very much a team, they learn and grow from each other, much like sisters. We did have a buckskin when we were kids, but he was a gelding aptly named Joker...I'm pretty sure he would not have made a good barrel horse!

Miles City, Montana Art Auction

This original pastel of two mares and a colt grazing is called "Down to Business" I could literally spend all day observing horses. Usually while grazing , they seem pretty laid back about it, but these three are downright zealous in their focus on the business at hand. The painting will be available at the Custer County Art Center's 36th Annual Art Auction in Miles City, Montana. The Auction will be held October 1, 2011 at 7 pm. There will a reception, silent auction and the ever exhuberant live auction!

A Little Tough

Here is a tough cowboy on a tough little bronc making for an exciting ride. I've recently been focusing on oils and this is an 11 x 14", one of several I have painted in preparation for the Cody Art Show next week in Cody, Wyoming. Bay & Palomino

Like getting lost in the colors of a campfire, there seems to be something therapeutic about watching the routine of grazing horses, as if all is right with the world as long as the horses are content.
